You must be prepared to follow Jesus generously, patiently, sometimes heroically, where He leads you. . .To love people is the one thing we have to do in their midst. Not just with any kind of love either, but with the very love that God Himself bears them. We must keep repeating to ourselves untiringly that it is not only our chief work in the world but at bottom, our only work - to free and purify and increase our powers of love. . .That is what we are made for, what we are destined for. And if we are to be of any use at all in the world, it will be for having been faithful enough to allow a bit of Christ's immense love to appear through our hearts.

Pope Benedict XVI

The invitation is to live every situation united to Christ, who takes upon his shoulders the whole burden of the world’s suffering and sin in order to bring light, hope and redemption. So it is that Jesus makes us capable in our turn of consoling those experiencing every sort of affliction. Profound union with Christ in prayer and trust in his presence, lead to the readiness to share in the suffering and troubles of our brethren. St Paul writes: “Who is weak, and am I not weak? Who is made to fall, and am I not indignant?” (cf. 2 Cor 11:29).
